Veneration or Desecration?

Here a clip the starting scene from Jean-Luc Godard’s Le Mépris (Contempt). (if you want to know what they are saying look up the subtitled clip or watch the film)  dubbed one of the “the greatest works of art produced in post-war Europe” in which Brigitte Bardot and Michel Piccoli’s characters share an intimate romantic conjugal moment.

Then the clip from a new Chanel commercial by Bettina Rheims to commemorate Rouge Allure

Is this what great moments in film history can aspire to? Being made into commercials?
Love Chanel  but I rather not see such inspired commercials. It almost seems like a parody, a cruel one at that if you have seen Contempt.
I wonder what the French think?
