The future is now

May 5th, 2008

And this is what we were supposed to dress like in the year 2000!

The shoes are on the mark…on the Marc Jacobs S/S 08 collection. The portable phone is a bit 80’s but we did get there. I wish the electric headlamp did exist…

Mystery solved!!!

I know what I told Kanye at the party: I love you!

Superheroes!!

April 29th, 2008

Image 1.jpg

The opening of Iron man, heralds (such a big word) the arrival of the summer blockbusters. We shall see a lot of superheroes movies, or at least hear all abou them. I believe Spiderman and Batman are scheduled for releases.
And since fashion should always be of the moment this year’s Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute big exhibition is on superheroes. This is kind of old news, as the big costume benefit gala is on May 5th, and I read about this a while back, but I was busy saving the world…
The Honorary Chair will be Giorgio Armani with Co-Chairs George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Anna Wintour. I look forward to the super hero outfits…

XOXO

April 24th, 2008

If you have Sallys and Mamas in your life, this one goes to them. Comments and statements sometimes get misunderstood…For the record, and “For the time being” I must state that there is nothing I love more than them because they are part of my “Familia”.

XOXO (Gossip Girl styles)

And with that said,
Here the best scene ever in “Gossip Girl”, mind you, I have missed a bit (a lot).

“I should have never let you, let me go”
This one goes to all my Canadians…For different reasons: last episode we watched together (le crew at St. Clair); episode we watched while dancing to 90’s music (le girls on X-mas); episode dedicated to ex-boyfriend….I know, it’s too late, I am an ocean away;so sorry I was so difficult…I am crying (not really, but let’s be dramatic).
I am saying it here: I loved you with “a” fire, not like the one I caused years ago, better.
You are one of my very best friends.
This sort of sentimentality is why Gossip Girl is the best show on TV. I can’t explain, see for yourself.
Le bon fromage!!!!!!!!!!

As a consolation something with Erlend and DJ/Producer Jori Hulkkonen

Did I mention I am in love with Erlend Øye?

From Toronto with love

April 15th, 2008

This video is probably really amusing to me because I know Davida, it also looks better in a smaller format as I saw it first on facebook. I still think it made Toronto look fun, or at least their night was fun.Davida Nemeroff is an awesome photographer; she loves Diane Arbus, they sort of share the same last name. Arbus’s maiden name was Nemerov and Davida is Nemeroff. Ok, not exactly the same name, but I just thought I would throw a random factoid.
I believe Davida will be as legendary as the photographer she so admires.

And speaking of great photographers, Lee Towndrow, whom I spent almost 3 hours on internet phone (skype) last night was recently featured on an important photo blog in Canada. I love the Internet, it does keep us close.
Lee’s lighting is amazing; I better get my portrait taken by him soon, before I turn 30. I want to be preserved forever 20s.

I am in France so here a photograph of famed French director François Ozon by Mr. Towndrow.

“I am going to be just like you.”

I did not drink, I did not do drugs, or smoke but when this movie came out 12 years ago I loved it. I read the book, had the soundtrack, as a matter of fact I think I owned the movie. Trainspotting was a seminal 90’s movie if I recall well. For what? Something to do with rave culture, I would not know…Personally it probably appealed to my repressed; scholarship earner, extra curricular activity doer, good girl persona.
I just saw the movie on Sunday and enjoyed it so much again: the story, the soundtrack, the characters, they are all great. It deserves to be the cult classic that it is.
Bonus: Renton (Ewan McGregor) is dressed like the perfect hipster! It was the tight jeans I guess.

Who is Anna Domino?

This is perfect Sunday music.

I feel her new wave angst…and the video is like the vinyl of videos; can you hear the vintage sound?

Today’s things (sort of)

April 8th, 2008

This is what mattered today. I wrote “sort of” because some of it I thought of before, and most of it only mattered to me.

First, my editor-at-large is now also art directing the “Eat Cake” party posters.

Concept: Kevin Ritchie and Candy Samples
Photography: Graydon Sheppard (I miss the Dragony)
and others…

If I was in Toronto the poster would be candy to my eyes on my walks down Queen St West.
The night of the party I suggest they play M.I.A.’s Paper Planes to my memory; the Laura at the party memory, when she used to wear gold leggings.
I don’t know anyone in Paris who likes M.I.A., I think she might be too “ghetto” for this crowd. “Bonafide hustler making my name…”

The summer of 1968. I am so lucky to be in Paris the summer of the 40th celebration of this historic year. The French take it, to say the least, very seriously.
I will advise you if I witness any commemorative riots.

I want to point out that that same year in Mexico thousands(unofficial), 300(sort of official),4 (government) students and workers were killed by the government in “La masacre de Tlatelolco”. Since the Olympics took place in Mexico city that year the government, with the help of the good neighbours from the north, took care of hiding it from pretty much everyone. Lucky Tiananmen Square, at least the world cared for them.

On a lighter note, Louis Garrel from “The Dreamers” and “Les Amants réguliers” -both movies are set in 1968- is oh la la la la…dreamy?

Blog I discovered recently and like: Dejour Magazine.
The Woody Allen suing Dov Churnet post is pretty funny.

An add for a internet/telephone/cable server I saw that made me think I would love to say to my friends in Toronto: “I have a Darty box in Paris”.

And finally, another Canadian in Paris who so many of my friends in Toronto know but I only see in posters in the Metro.

P.S. Comme des Garçons for H&M this November. AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Rei is such a good business woman.

Research reasons brought me to this site first thing in the morning.
Note: turn up the volume in your computer speakers. It’s eerie; such great way to start your day.
I love Steven Klein’s photography. He makes me think of a David Lynch of photography, (He was compared to Cronenberg in a recent New York magazine article.)
Without getting into the merits of his precise photographic style, something has to be said about someone who can make his subjects look so beautiful in dark contexts.
If I were a celebrity I would want him to play with me too. Personally, I think I would be really well cast in a fire starter photo shoot.
